Chamber candlestick from Meissen

Price: 5,500.- DKK per item

Height 6 cm.
Diameter 12 cm.
Beautifully decorated chamber candlestick from the 1820s.

The candlestick is decorated on a light blue background with three oval cartouches and dense patterns in gold. The two cartouches by the handle are decorated with bouquets of flowers in bright beautiful colors and surrounded by rocailles in gold. The front cartouche is decorated with a motif of Linkesches Bad / Lincke’sches Bad from Dresden.

The candlestick is marked with Meissen's crossed sword and is from the 1820s-1840s.

Linkesches Bad can be traced back to 1734 when a gazebo was built directly at the Elbe.
In 1753 this was given permission to serve beer, wine to bake and have a forge on site. The first bath at Linkesches Bad occurs in 1763, when the physician Peter Ambrosius Lehmann creates the first mineral bath, which grows large enough to have 28 outdoor baths by 1824.
Up through the end of the 18th century, the place was expanded with cottages, amphitheater, comedy house and an outdoor restaurant. A concert hall was built on the site in 1853 and the site became the "Grand Théâtre des Varietés" in 1867 and became more of a dining venue in the late 1800s, for which there should have been 15,000 seats in 1911.
Linkesches Bad, like the rest of Dresden, was carpet-bombed during World War II but was not rebuilt for its original purpose.

The candlestick is in super fine condition with shiny gold edges and no repairs.
It has a little black in the light pipe and, small tiny scratch on the outer edge of the light pipe and minimal wear to the gold.

The candleholder originates from a private Danish collection of 18th and 19th century porcelain.
